Spiritual Response to COVID-19

Hari Om

Do not panic

The more vulnerable we feel, the more anxious we get. There is strong evidence that anxiety can dramatically weaken the immune system, making us even more vulnerable to the virus. To get out of the vicious loop, we need to deal positively with our anxiety. As recalled and reminded appropriately by Swami Tyagananda, A verse from the Vedic scripture Pañcadaśī (7.168) is a helpful reminder of what is obvious but often forgotten:

यदभावि न तद्‌भावि भावि चेन्न तदन्यथा । इति चिन्ताविषघ्नोऽयं बोधो भ्रमनिवर्तक: ॥

Yad abhāvi na tad bhāvi, bhāvi cet na tad anyathā;

Iti cintā-viṣaghno’yaṁ bodho bhrama-nivartakaḥ.

What will not happen will not happen. What will happen will happen”—this knowledge destroys the poison of anxiety and removes all delusion.

This is not fatalism. Nor does this mean that we do nothing, that we merely sit idle and let things take their own course. Far from it. What it does mean is that after doing the best we can to respond appropriately to any situation, we recognize that, when all is said and done, what is to be will be, what is not to be won’t be. There is nothing any of us can do more than our best at any given time.

As Swamiji says, Our “best” is not a fixed quantity. It can, and generally does, change with time. To do our very best and, having done that, to step aside and stop worrying—this approach helps us to focus our time, skill and energy fully on the task in hand, instead of wasting them through anxiety and, in the process, weakening ourselves.

Practice being alone

Aloneness is not loneliness. By practicing being alone we can talk to our inner Self (God) and know more about the Grand design through intuition rather than by intellect or intelligence which is limited and inadequate to throw light on the absolute Reality.

Contemplate

Swami Vivekananda encouraged his students to think of death always. His glowing words come to mind:

“Look here—we shall all die [sooner or later]. Bear this in mind always, and then the spirit within will wake up. Then only, meanness will vanish from you, practicality in work will come, you will get new vigor in mind and body, and those who come in contact with you will also feel that they have really got something uplifting from you.”

We are at our best only when we are challenged. The present COVID-19 crisis is a challenge to the ingenuity, intelligence and strength inherent in human beings. We can face this challenge with wisdom, wit, courage, positivity, prayerfulness and farsightedness. If we handle it well, we also make ourselves stronger to face even greater and scary challenges ahead. They will surely come and we should be prepared.

Karma is Powerful

Adisesha (The one who remains as the remainder even after Pralaya or complete destruction of the Universe) represents the Nature or Prakriti on whom rests Narayana the manifest God to sustain the universe. By showing reverence and devotion to the Sarpa idol and pouring milk or other offerings as part of a ritual, we are seeking forgiveness for all knowingly and unknowingly committed sins and crime towards Mother Nature and all living beings. This can also be considered as showing reverence to the moola or primordial Sakthi or Adi Sakthi being represented as serpent power within the Self to manifest itself as incarnations through cycles of birth and death based on karmic mechanism.

Today’s Coronavirus is an effect of bad karma caused by killing animals and harming nature by humans for their selfish goals and means. How many calves, goats and other living beings are killed for making the luxurious products of leather by gluttony manufacturers to infest the world with lust for luxuries? How many animals are being slaughtered for decorating the living corpses?

Sarpa Dosha is caused by harming nature and living beings. Vedic astrology explains how Rahu (Dragon’s head) and Kethu (Dragon’s Tail) along with other malefic planets take the role of paying back for all bad karma. All epidemics such as Cholera, Spanish flu, SARS, Ebola, Coronavirus are only the effects caused by our own wrongdoings (collective bad karma) against nature and living beings.

Let us worship nature and see Atman in all living beings. Let us seek forgiveness from the bottom of our Hearts from Almighty for all those sins committed consciously or unconsciously. He will deliver Justice.

Let us practice, kindness, compassion, tolerance, forgiveness and togetherness.

Let us fight together Coronavirus with Virus3P – Positivity, Prayerfulness and Proactiveness.

Thank you…..Guruji…..🙏😊✋️
